Because yes, they can rap, dance, and outsmart most of us at the same time.
We already know BTS has it all. The music, the looks, the talent. But have you ever wondered just how smart these seven guys actually are? Like, behind-the-scenes, quiz-show-destroying, speaking-at-the-UN smart?
ARMY has been curious about BTS members’ IQ scores for a long time, and honestly, the numbers don’t disappoint. Let’s go through what we know, what’s been reported, and why intelligence in BTS goes way beyond a single score.
Who Has the Highest IQ in BTS?
RM has the highest IQ of any BTS member, with a reported IQ of 148. Kim Namjoon sits firmly at the top, placing him in the top 0.1% of the entire world population. But the full picture is a lot more interesting than one number. Keep reading.
⚠️ Heads up: IQ scores for most BTS members come from publicly available fan discussions, variety show moments, and fan-cited sources — not official verified records. RM’s IQ of 148 is the most widely reported and sourced figure. We’ve done our best to back every claim with a source, but treat member-specific numbers as reported figures, not gospel.
First, a Quick IQ Reality Check
Before we rank the boys, let’s make sure we’re on the same page about what IQ even means.
IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, is a standardized score that measures certain cognitive abilities. The average score is 100. Anything above 130 is considered gifted, and only about 2% of people worldwide score above 130.

But here’s the thing: IQ only measures one slice of intelligence. It doesn’t capture creativity, emotional depth, musical genius, or the kind of instinctive artistry BTS members show every single day. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences (which includes musical, interpersonal, and creative thinking ) is basically a BTS members’ résumé.
That said, the numbers are still genuinely impressive. Let’s get into it.
BTS Members’ IQ at a Glance
| Member | Reported IQ | Source / Context |
| RM (Kim Namjoon) | 148 | Reported during 2015 university entrance exams; AllKpop |
| Suga (Min Yoongi) | 130 | Fan-cited; APSense |
| V (Kim Taehyung) | ~130–142 (estimated) | Observations by members + Environmental Literacy Council |
| Jungkook | 128 | Self-reported on VLive; Epicstream |

| Jin (Kim Seokjin) | 107 | Self-reported in conversation with members; Epicstream |
| J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) | Not publicly reported | No confirmed source available |
Now let’s actually talk about each member, because a number in a table doesn’t do them justice.
RM (Kim Namjoon) — IQ: 148
If BTS were a school, RM would be the one ruining the curve for everyone else. And we mean that with the highest level of admiration.
According to AllKpop, RM scored in the top 1% during South Korea’s university entrance exams in 2015 and holds a reported IQ of 148, placing him in the top 0.1% of the entire world population. That’s not just “smart for a pop star.” That’s objectively, statistically rare.
He also revealed on Beatles Code that he ranked in the top 1.3% nationally in high school exams across language, mathematics, foreign language, and social studies. All four. At once.

And then there’s the language thing. RM taught himself English almost entirely by watching Friends. He watched all 10 seasons — first with Korean subtitles, then with English subtitles, then with no subtitles at all. As he once said:
“My English teacher was the sitcom Friends. I thought I was kind of like a victim at that time, but right now, I’m the lucky one.”
He confirmed this again at the 2022 Grammys when host Trevor Noah asked about it. RM joked that he’s “more of a Chandler.” The man learned a second language through a sitcom and then went on to deliver a speech at the United Nations. In that same language. No big deal.
At age 15, he scored 850 out of 990 on the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication). He appeared on Problematic Men, a Korean variety show for intellectuals, where he solved a complex brain teaser about desert exploration and food rationing — effortlessly, while the rest of the cast struggled.
RM has written and produced over 80 credited songs with the Korea Music Copyright Association, is a serious art collector and critic, and his solo album Indigo is layered with references to art history and literary theory. So yes. The IQ tracks. Find more about his lyrics in my video.
Suga (Min Yoongi) —Reported IQ: 130
Suga doesn’t say much. But when he does, it hits different. And when he sits down to make music, the results speak for themselves.
His reported IQ of 130 puts him solidly in the top 2% globally. But honestly, the more impressive stat is what he’s done with that mind.

Suga started composing and arranging music at age 17. He came up through Daegu’s underground hip-hop scene before BTS even existed. He entered Big Hit’s audition primarily to become a producer, and he joked that he “got tricked” into becoming an idol when Bang Si-hyuk asked him to train as a performer too.
As Agust D, his solo trilogy (Agust D, D-2, and D-DAY) uses music to explore trauma, mental health, ambition, and philosophy in a way most artists wouldn’t attempt. He collaborated on D-DAY with legendary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and with IU, showcasing both artistic range and strategic vision.
He also hosts Suchwita, a long-form talk show where he engages guests in surprisingly deep conversations about music, meaning, and life. He holds an MBA from Hanyang Cyber University and a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University.
Analytical. Precise. Strategic. Suga’s kind of intelligence shows up in every beat he crafts and every word he writes.
V (Kim Taehyung) — Estimated IQ: 130–142
V’s IQ is estimated in the range of 130 to 142, based on observations from other members and fan analysis. But more than numbers, what stands out about Taehyung is how he thinks.
He was appointed Visual Director for BTS’s BE album — meaning he didn’t just perform on it, he helped conceptualize the entire visual direction of the project. That’s not a title you give someone just because they’re pretty.

Vogue Korea called him an “all-rounder icon overflowing with creative talent” and praised him for being involved in the creative process from the planning stages, unlike many celebrities who only see the final draft.
When asked about his most precious talent in an interview, V said something that really stayed with fans:
“Even as I grow older, I never lose interest in the things that I’ve liked. Curiosity. I still have a lot of it. Sometimes, as we age, our passion might fade, but I think I’m someone who remains deeply curious no matter how much time passes.”
Curiosity as a talent. Honestly, that’s a pretty high-IQ thing to say.
He’s also got a photographic-level memory for choreography, a deep love for art and classical music, and an instinct for aesthetics that shows up in everything from his fashion to his photography. His solo debut album, Layover, was a deeply intentional, genre-bending project that showed a completely different side of his creative thinking.
Jungkook — Reported IQ: 128
Jungkook and Jimin both self-reported an IQ of 128 during a VLive. The moment was iconic because Jin immediately responded with “Oh, you two are so smart — mine is 107,” which is peak Jin energy, and we love him for it.

An IQ of 128 is genuinely above average. But what makes Jungkook special isn’t just the number — it’s his learning speed. He’s called the “Golden Maknae” for a reason. He picks up skills at an almost unnatural pace: singing, dancing, producing, filmmaking, tattooing (yes, really). And if you’re curious about BTS tattoos and what they mean, we’ve got a whole breakdown), boxing, and painting. The list goes on.
He’s also been noted as one of the members working hardest on English, always studying in the background when the group was touring internationally.
His solo debut proved his creative intelligence too. He co-wrote and produced much of his solo material, and his single Seven became the fastest song to reach 100 million streams on Spotify at the time of its release. That’s not luck. That’s knowing your audience and delivering exactly what they need.
Jimin (Park Jimin) — Reported IQ: 128
Jimin also self-reported an IQ of 128, matching Jungkook. But his form of intelligence shows up most clearly in his obsessive attention to detail and near-perfect physical precision as a dancer.
He was a standout student at Busan High School of Arts, where he majored in contemporary dance. His teacher reportedly told him to audition for Big Hit specifically because of his exceptional ability — and he was accepted with the shortest trainee period of any BTS member.

His choreography execution is considered some of the most technically precise in K-pop. That kind of mind-body coordination and spatial awareness is its own form of high intelligence.
He later earned an MBA from Hanyang Cyber University and a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University. His solo albums FACE and Muse both showed deep emotional self-awareness that goes hand-in-hand with his growth as an artist.
Jin (Kim Seokjin) — Reported IQ: 107
Jin’s self-reported IQ of 107 is right around the average range. And he was adorably self-deprecating about it when Jungkook and Jimin revealed their 128s. But don’t let that number fool you for a second.
Jin majored in Film and Visual Studies at Konkuk University — one of South Korea’s reputable universities, and later earned an MBA from Hanyang Cyber University. That’s not a 107-IQ arc. That’s a whole different kind of intelligence.

Jin’s emotional intelligence is through the roof. He’s consistently the member who lightens the mood, diffuses tension with humor, and supports everyone else’s mental health. His dad jokes are legendary. His ability to make everyone comfortable, even in the most high-pressure environments, is a skill in itself.
And let’s not forget. His solo album Happy debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, selling over 953,000 units in its first week in South Korea and becoming the country’s best-selling solo album of 2024. Happy indeed.
J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) — IQ: Not Publicly Reported
J-Hope’s IQ score has never been publicly reported, and we’re not going to make up a number just to fill a table. What we can tell you is that his intelligence is undeniable — it just expresses itself in ways that are harder to quantify.
He was a celebrated street dancer in Gwangju’s Neuron crew before BTS. His spatial and kinesthetic intelligence — the ability to understand and control the body with extraordinary precision — is off the charts. He’s one of the main choreography pillars of the group.

His solo album, Jack in the Box, surprised literally everyone. He used it to explore the Greek myth of Pandora’s Box through a dark, concept-driven lens that nobody expected from J-Hope. That’s not accidental. That’s a deeply intentional creative mind at work.
He performed as a headliner at Lollapalooza Berlin in 2025 — a stage most artists spend years working toward. He also holds an MBA from Hanyang Cyber University and a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment. The man shows up prepared, always.
So, Who Is the Smartest BTS Member?
If we’re going strictly by reported IQ scores, the ranking looks like this:
- RM — IQ 148 (top 0.1% globally, most documented)
- V — Estimated 130–142 (creative intelligence, visual directorship)
- Suga — Reported 130 (analytical, music production mastery)
- Jungkook — Reported 128
- Jimin — Reported 128
- Jin — Reported 107 (but emotionally? Easily top three)
- J-Hope — Not reported (kinesthetic + creative intelligence: elite)
But honestly? Ranking them feels a little wrong.
As Suga said on Suchwita, “Our team is cool in that the charm of all seven of us is so different, and we all have different things we are good at. So I thought us being together brought about really good synergy.”
That’s exactly it. RM has the highest raw IQ score. But Suga has the analytical precision of a producer-CEO. V has creative intelligence that Vogue Korea calls “overflowing.” Jimin has physical and emotional precision. Jungkook has an almost supernatural ability to learn anything. Jin has the emotional intelligence that holds the group together. And J-Hope has the kind of stage and spatial awareness that takes a lifetime to develop.

BTS Members’ Intelligence Goes Beyond IQ
All seven members hold degrees from recognized institutions. Several have MBAs. RM has been recognized in academic and creative circles alike. South China Morning Post included RM in a list of Korea’s brainiest celebrities, placing him among Mensa members and Stanford graduates.
Their music references philosophy, psychology, and literature. Their lyrics have explored mental health, the hero’s journey, Jungian shadow theory, and the meaning of self-love long before it was trendy. That doesn’t happen by accident.
BTS isn’t just a pop group with high IQs. They are seven people with seven completely different kinds of intelligence, all working together. And that, more than any score, is why they became one of the biggest acts in music history. Curious about how their success has translated financially? Check out our breakdown of the richest BTS member — the numbers are just as impressive.
⚠️ Note: IQ scores for BTS members other than RM are based on publicly available fan-cited sources, variety show moments, and reported figures. These are not officially verified records.

Not necessarily. IQ is just one type of cognitive measure. Creativity, emotional intelligence, discipline, and passion are just as important — and BTS members have all of these in abundance, regardless of their scores.

Hi! Just like many of you, I didn’t found BTS. They found me exactly when I needed them the most. I created Army Bangtan World to celebrate BTS and connect with fans who feel the same magic. From their music to their message, this site is my tribute to the boys who changed my life. One beat at a time.
