Ever typed a purple heart under a BTS post without even thinking about it? Same. That little ๐ is basically muscle memory for ARMY at this point. BTS Animal Emojis: What Each Member’s Emoji Means
This next part is not official Twitter branding. It is something better: fan culture. Over the years, ARMY landed on one signature animal emoji per member, based on personality, BT21 characters, or just plain vibes. These are the ones that actually stuck across the fandom.
Here is a quick table to understand BTS emojis animals in simple:
| Member | Emoji | Why It Stuck |
|---|---|---|
| Namjoon (RM) | ๐จ | Calm, introspective, loves plants, and his BT21 character Koya is literally a koala |
| Seokjin (Jin) | ๐น | Hamster cheeks when he eats, a habit fans found impossible not to notice |
| Yoongi (SUGA) | ๐ฑ | Independent, sharp, low-key mysterious, and a self-confessed cat video enthusiast |
| Hoseok (J-Hope) | ๐ฟ๏ธ | Bright, energetic personality that fans compare to a cheerful squirrel |
| Jimin | ๐ฅ | His plump lips resemble a baby chick’s beak, and the nickname just stuck |
| Taehyung (V) | ๐ฏ | Tiger prints in his wardrobe and past use of tiger emojis in his own posts |
| Jungkook | ๐ฐ | Round eyes, competitive streak, and the nickname “muscle bunny” from his own members |
A couple of these deserve their own little spotlight, because the backstory is honestly too good to skip.
Taehyung’s Tiger Emoji Almost Had Competition
Tiger is Taehyung’s go-to symbol thanks to his love of tiger prints and his own use of the emoji in past posts. It is worth knowing that after he dropped “Winter Bear” in 2019, some fans floated a bear emoji too, and Sportskeeda even covered a HYBE event that used both tiger and bear balloons for him. Tiger ๐ฏ remains the one ARMY reaches for most.
Jungkook: From Bunny to “Muscle Bunny”
The bunny emoji started simple: round eyes, cute smile, done. But once fans saw how ridiculously fit Jungkook is underneath all that softness, the nickname evolved into “muscle bunny,” and ๐ฐ became shorthand for both his looks and his intensity in the gym.

BTS Twitter Emojis: How BTS Made K-pop History on Twitter
Before we get into the fun fan stuff, let’s talk facts. BTS was not just given a random emoji for fun. They earned the title of first K-pop act to ever receive an official Twitter emoji, and it happened years before most casual fans even knew who they were.
According to Soompi, the first BTS Twitter emoji launched on May 13, 2016, showing a bulletproof vest as a nod to their Korean name, Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.” Typing #BTS or #๋ฐฉํ์๋ ๋จ would trigger it automatically. It was not just for looks either. Twitter ran a global contest off the back of it, and Hello K-pop reported that South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, the US, and Indonesia ended up as the top five countries by tweet volume, each winning a personal video message from the boys.
That was just the beginning. Here is how the official emoji rollout actually went, year by year.
| Year | Emoji Trigger | What It Looked Like | Why It Happened |
| 2016 | #BTS, #๋ฐฉํ์๋ ๋จ | Bulletproof vest logo | First K-pop act to get a Twitter emoji, ahead of their Asia tour |
| 2017 | #BTSxAMAs, #ARMYxAMAs | New rebranded BTS logo | Announcing their first AMAs performance with “DNA” |
| 2017 | #LoveBTS10M | Inverted ARMY door logo | Celebrating 10 million Twitter followers |
| 2020 | #RM, #JIN, #SUGA, #jhope, #JIMIN, #V, #JK and more | Seven individual member face emojis, plus black BTS and ARMY logos | 7th debut anniversary, with logos in black to show BLM solidarity |
That last one is a big deal for a reason that casual fans often miss. Koreaboo confirmed that from June 13 to June 30, 2020, Twitter ran a total of nine BTS-themed emojis, and each member finally got their own personal emoji tied to hashtags like #RM, #์๊ฐ, #์ง๋ฏผ, and #์ ๊ตญ. That was the first time individual members, not just the group, had emoji representation. Big deal for a fandom that had been asking for this for years.
BTS Purple Heart Emoji: Where “I Purple You” Actually Came From
Okay, now for the emoji you have definitely used a hundred times: ๐. If you are new to ARMY, here is the story you need to know before you post another one.
V (Kim Taehyung) coined the phrase “I purple you” back in 2016, at the end of a fan meeting. According to Merriam-Webster, he chose purple specifically because it sits at the very bottom of the rainbow, and to him, that meant trusting and loving each other for a really, really long time. It is not just a cute phrase, either. It became the fandom’s whole love language.
KpopStarz reports that ARMY now celebrates November 13 as the official anniversary of “I Purple You,” and the BTS official account still drops the ๐ constantly. Fun fact for the trivia lovers: the purple heart emoji itself actually predates the phrase by six years. It became part of Unicode all the way back in 2010, according to Dictionary.com, and only became BTS-coded after V’s speech made it iconic.
So next time someone asks why ARMY spams purple hearts under every single post, you now have the receipts.
Popular BTS Emoji Combinations ARMY Uses Online
Beyond individual symbols, ARMY has basically built its own emoji language. If you scroll through fan comments, captions, or bios, you will spot the same combos repeating. Here are the most common ones and what they actually mean.
- ๐๐โจ โ “Purple ocean,” a nod to the sea of purple ARMY Bombs at concerts
- โจ๐ฃ๐ โ References the ARMY Bomb lightstick itself
- โญโฌ๐ โ The connected BTS and ARMY door logos, plus the classic heart
- ๐ถ๐ โ Used specifically for V, tying his puppy-like affection to the purple heart
- ๐๐ซถ โ Purple heart paired with the hand heart gesture, common in fan edits and captions
None of this is officially trademarked or anything. It is just what happens when millions of fans use the same handful of symbols for over a decade. Eventually, a shorthand forms on its own, and everyone just knows what it means. That is fandom for you.
How to Use BTS Emojis the Right Way: Quick Tips
- Save the purple heart for genuine moments. It carries real meaning in this fandom, so ARMY notices when it gets overused for unrelated posts.
- Use member animal emojis in bios or comments to signal your bias without spelling it out. A ๐ฐ next to your name says plenty.
- Pair emojis with hashtags during anniversaries like June 13 (debut day) or November 13 (“I Purple You” day) to join the trend properly.
- Do not force official emojis outside their window. Twitter’s member face emojis were only active from June 13 to June 30, 2020, so they will not trigger anymore even if you use the right hashtag.
